The Corporate R&D Center of the SK Institute of Technology (SKIT) convened the kick-off meeting for the ‘Hydrogen Station Technology Development Project’ on Sep. 22, 2004, which is one of the alternative energy technology development projects spearheaded by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE).

This meeting is a follow-up measure of the SK’s selection as a state-funded project leader in early August 2004. For the upcoming five years, SKIT will take the leadership in the hydrogen station technology development project in cooperation with three state-funded research institutes (KIST, KIER, KRICT) and four universities (Korea Univ., Yonsei Univ., Chonnam National Univ, KAIST).

A total of 20 or so experts from SKIT and seven commissioned organizations have attended the meeting. In the first meeting, project manager Gwak Byeong-seong, head of the Corporate R&D Center, says, “This project carries tremendous industrial and technical significance. As such, SK and each of the commissioned organizations should share objectives and make mutual cooperation. Every one of us should make efforts to ensure that the project results can contribute to the building of Korean-type hydrogen stations.”

The participants also felt honored to be part of the historic hydrogen stations building project, which signals the beginning of the hydrogen energy era. They promised to offer active cooperation to make sure that the project can smoothly progress under the leadership of SK.
